Introduction

The purpose of the University of Georgia School of Medicine (UGA SOM) student handbook is to serve as a guide for students throughout their medical education, from matriculation to graduation. As members of the SOM community, all students are expected to familiarize themselves with its contents and abide by the policies, procedures, and expectations described in the handbook and all university regulations.

The policies and procedures set forth in this handbook reflect the standards of the medical profession and the educational mission of the UGA SOM. They are designed to support the development of competent, ethical, and compassionate physicians while ensuring a learning environment that is equitable, safe, and conducive to academic excellence. Where applicable, the policies in this handbook are consistent with the rules and regulations of the University of Georgia and with the accreditation standards established by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
