The University of Georgia School of Medicine has received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the accrediting body for U.S. medical education programs leading to the doctor of medicine degree. With preliminary accreditation, the School of Medicine will now officially welcome its inaugural class of students in the fall of 2026.

The School of Medicine will undergo additional accreditation steps with the LCME in the coming years to reach full accreditation.

The LCME is jointly sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Medical Association. Graduation from an LCME-accredited medical school is required for eligibility for the United States Medical Licensing Examination and entry into residency training programs.
