Kent Nilsson, MD

Dr. Kent Nilsson is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Medicine and serves as both Chief of the Division of Medicine and Medical Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. He received both his MA and MD degrees from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine before he completed his internal medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Following internal medicine training, he completed his cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology fellowships at Duke University, where he stayed on as faculty for several years before being recruited to Athens. Initially a basic scientist studying inherited arrhythmias, his research interests have turned to translational and clinical research. The projects involve large animal models, first in human IDE trials, and large international clinical trials. Ongoing research programs focus primarily on Leadless pacing and next generation AI based 3D electroanatomical mapping of complex arrhythmias. Dr. Nilsson lives in Athens with his wife and has three daughters. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, cooking, and traveling.
